INTRODUCTION TO PRINTING
PRNT 101 - Introduction to Printing
This course introduces the theory and application of today’s
primary printing processes. Projects include using powerful
industry programs such as: QuarkXPress, InDesign and Photoshop
to design and print your own T-shirts, stickers, memo
pads and business cards; using screen, lithography and flexography
printing process.
Flexography
Narrow Web Label Printing theory and applications are taught
using the department’s Mark Andy 830 Flexographic Printing
Press. Course components include pre-press, press operation,
platemaking, plate mounting, ink systems, die cutting, substrates,
press safety and environmental concerns. Students will
operate the press and the “FlexSystems” simulation program.

NEW ACCELERATED FLEXOGRAPHY PROGRAM
An accelerated job training program designed for job placement
in flexography printing. Program includes completion of Print 101, Print 085, Print 086, and 3 flexography certificates.

OFFSET PRINTING
Sheetfed Offset Press (GATF Certification Course)*
These courses focus on the theory and use of large offset
printing presses. Printing quality and color consistency on presses
are practiced. Components of press safety, feeder, delivery,
identifying various paper types, cylinder system, image quality
and press adjustments are covered. Students will also train on
“SHOTS”, a powerful computer offset press simulator.
Quick Print
This course teaches students to operate various small offset duplicator presses (AB Dick, Multi, Hamada, TOK). One hour lecture and three hours of lab per week.

PHOTO SILK SCREEN
These courses prepare students with the practical experience necessary to enter the photo silk screen printing industry. Students gain experience in coating, exposing, and producing single to multi-color projects on various substrates. Projects include printing T-shirts, posters and bumper stickers.

ELECTRONIC IMAGING
Electronic Pre-Press
This imaging course was developed as a high powered
program for training and retraining pre-press students for
the industry. Using state-of-the-art MacIntosh and PC
computers with color scanners and leading industry software.
This course covers typography, font management,
postscript, digital file transport, digital imposition, digital
trapping and color management. Output is onto film,
plates, digital color proofing and wide format printing.
Electronic Pre-Press
This imaging course was developed as a high powered
program for training and retraining pre-press students for
the industry. Course material includes desktop skills in
composition, job engineering, image capture, and electronic
output.
Advanced Electronic Pre-Press
This advanced course covers typography, postscript,
font management, digital file transport, digital imposition,
digital trapping, and color management. Students
use state-of-the-art MacIntosh and PC computers,
color scanners, powerful illustration and page layout
software. Artwork is output to film, plates and digital
color proofs.
* These courses use curriculum developed by the Graphic Arts Technical
Foundation (GATF), the most widely accepted standard for
industry approved training materials.
Printing Skills Lab
Open entry. 24 lab hours required for each half unit of credit.
Hours can be scheduled:
Mon. Wed. 9:00am-3:30pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm,
Thur. 9:00am-3:30pm and 4:00pm-10:00pm
Fri. from 9:00am-12:00pm.
